Why does a drone shot tilt with every turn?

Story

Camera drones usually hang the camera on a gimbal whose motors cancel each tilt, so the horizon stays level. An FPV racing drone bolts the camera to the frame: to turn, it rolls, and the picture rolls with it.

Michael Bay shot Ambulance (2022) with FPV drones from Lightcraft, flown by Alex Vanover and Jordan Temkin. Their coordinator, Davis DiLillo, estimates they flew up to 80 to 90 mph, and Vanover put the parking garage run at 60 to 70. A demo dive down a downtown glass tower, ten feet off the glass, got Bay's attention: "This looks like VFX." On set he asked for a dive off a building, looking straight down on a camera operator at the bottom.

The city, the van and the drones here are our own, built and lit in code. The speeds on screen are our camera's.

Level horizon, or roller coaster?
