Turned the grind dial with the grinder off? Still weak.

The manual says to turn the dial only while the grinder runs, and the change shows two cups later.

1. Water tank to the MAX line with fresh water (it holds 1.8 L)
2. Espresso beans in the hopper, up to 250 g (no caramelised or candied beans)
3. Switch it on: it heats up and rinses itself through the spouts
4. The strength knob grinds more beans, not finer ones; keep it short of MAX or the coffee can come a drop at a time
5. Cup under the spouts, spouts down as close to the cup as they go: a creamier coffee
6. Press for a short coffee (about 40 ml): it grinds first
7. While the grinder runs, turn the grind dial inside the hopper one click toward 1 (finer). One click at a time
8. Judge after two coffees: the change only shows once 2 cups have gone through. Still weak? One more click, again while it grinds
9. Once a month, machine off: the brew unit out from behind the side door, soaked about 5 minutes and rinsed under the tap, no washing-up liquid

Ground too coarsely, the water runs through the coffee fast and comes out thin and pale, with little crema. A finer grind holds it back: fuller, creamier. The common habit is to turn the strength knob to MAX, or to crank the grind dial a few numbers finer with the machine off; the maker's manual says the strength knob only grinds more beans, and the dial goes one click at a time, only while the grinder runs, judged two coffees later.
