## Story

A German spa has a sauna with a Mediterranean name: Andalusian sweat bath.

Forty-five degrees. It is a chilli menu: mild, medium, hot. And every country's medium is a different number.

So the war goes round the world: is the Mediterranean sauna even a sauna? A Finnish sauna researcher, on the news: fifty degrees is too cold. And the name is upside down. In ancient Rome, the dry sweat room was the hot one. Go east, and the scale slides. In a Korean charcoal kiln, eighty degrees can be the low room. And to a Japanese sauna writer, the Finnish sauna is the mild one. About twenty degrees cooler than Japan's.

So who is right? Mild is not wrong. Hot is not right. Every number has a home. Even that Finnish researcher says it: there is no right temperature for a Finnish sauna.

Feel dizzy or unwell? Leave the heat. No alcohol in the sauna.
