## Story

In Dubai a summer day can feel like 62 degrees. Inside the mall, it is below freezing.

On 17 July 2024 Dubai had 43 degrees in the shade, and it was so humid that it felt like 62 (the heat index at Dubai International Airport, from US weather services). For a Finn, that is a badly run sauna: not hot enough, too humid, and no door to go out.

So in 2005 they built the opposite. Inside the Mall of the Emirates: snow, 22,500 square metres of it, just below freezing, with a chairlift and a ski run 400 metres long. Walk from the car park to the slope on a day like that, and the air drops about 44 degrees. At the South Pole the 300 Club swings 167; Dubai does a quarter of it by going shopping.

Our sauna is the same idea, inside out: heat in the little room, winter outside the door. When Finland came to Expo 2020 in Dubai, we brought a pavilion called Lumi. Snow. Dubai already had snow. In the mall.

What is the biggest swing you have done in one go?
